Guides // Materials
Learn the three material inventories and the Guardian and Thargoid piles beside them, their grade ladders, and how to turn what you have into what your engineering needs.
Most materials sit in one of three inventories — raw, manufactured, or encoded — each with its own gathering loop, storage, and trader. Guardian and Thargoid pieces use those same inventories, but traders will not convert them.
Every material carries a grade and a rarity, and each grade has a hard storage cap. Caps shrink as grade climbs, so high grades are the scarce currency — the catalogue below flags which grade to gather and which to trade for.
| Grade | Rarity | Cap | Inventories |
|---|---|---|---|
| G1 | Very Common | 300 | Raw · Manufactured · Encoded |
| G2 | Common | 250 | Raw · Manufactured · Encoded |
| G3 | Standard | 200 | Raw · Manufactured · Encoded |
| G4 | Rare | 150 | Raw · Manufactured · Encoded |
| G5 | Very Rare | 100 | Manufactured · Encoded |

Xeno components and data — carapace, energy cells, organic circuitry, wake scans.

Combat salvage from interceptors and scouts, plus barnacles. Traders will not touch them.
No trader converts Thargoid pieces either. They split across two inventories — Components salvaged from wrecks, scouts, and barnacles, and Data pulled from scans.
| Group | Store | Drops (grade) |
|---|---|---|
| Components | Manufactured | Thargoid Carapace (G2), Bio-Mechanical Conduits (G3), Thargoid Energy Cell (G3), Wreckage Components (G3), Thargoid Technological Components (G4), Weapon Parts (G4), Propulsion Elements (G5), Sensor Fragment (G5), Thargoid Organic Circuitry (G5) |
| Data | Encoded | Thargoid Structural Data (G2), Ship Flight Data (G3), Thargoid Material Composition Data (G3), Thargoid Ship Signature (G3), Ship Systems Data (G4), Thargoid Residue Data (G4), Thargoid Wake Data (G4) |
16 Thargoid materials in FDev IDs. Multiple items can share a grade because there is no conversion chain.
