Encoded Materials

The Jameson crash site — scan the wreck and cap the encryptors.

01

What the Wreck Is

Encoded

The crashed Cobra of CMDR (Commander: What the Pilots Federation calls you, and what commanders call each other.) John Jameson on 1 B in HIP 12099. Data points around the wreck scan into encoded materials — FSD (Frame Shift Drive: The drive that does both jobs: hyperspace jumps between systems, and supercruise inside them.), sensors, shields, core internals. A 2025 pass expanded it from four scan points to nine and raised the yield.

The play matches HGEs (High-Grade Emissions: A short-lived supercruise signal packed with one Grade-5 manufactured material.): gather the type that piles up fastest — Adaptive Encryptors Capture (G5) — and convert it for the rest of the encoded grid. You can fill the headline drops in one sitting.

What to Fit

Ship

The same low bar as the other surface runs — the SRV (Surface Recon Vehicle: The wheeled buggy you drive on planet surfaces. Needs a Planetary Vehicle Hangar.) turret does the scanning and the wreck is abandoned.

Planetary Vehicle Hangar + SRV

The turret scans the data points. No weapons needed on the ship.

Detailed Surface Scanner

First visit only. After that, Jameson Crash Site sits in the Nav panel.

Optional: scan from the ship

A front-cockpit ship (not an Anaconda or Corvette) can scan the beacons from a low hover with its Datalink Scanner. Encoded data is weightless — skip cargo and limpets (A single-use drone that collects, prospects, repairs, or researches. Weighs a tonne and rides in the hold.).

03

The Gathering Loop

Method

Park behind the Cobra, sweep the turret, reset when storage fills. The beacons come back on a plain relog (Logging out and back in to rebuild the instance, so a picked-over site respawns its loot.) to the main menu, so the loop is quick.

First visit — once

01

Jump and honk

Arrive in HIP 12099, discovery-scan, and head to 1 B.

02

Find it once

DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner: Fires probes at a body to map it. Raises the cartographic payout and reveals surface signals.) the moon, then fly to -54.37, -50.35. Later visits: select Jameson Crash Site.

Every reset — repeat

01

Park behind the wreck

From there the turret reaches the main cluster with little repositioning.

02

Scan all nine points

Sweep the Datalink Scanner over every beacon. Nudge forward for the farthest few. The ninth is the Cobra itself — scan it once for Jameson’s last logs.

03

Reset on storage full

At “unable to receive data — storage full”, quit to the main menu, log back into the same mode, and scan again.

Park behind the wreck and sweep a short loop so every data point is in turret range.

What Drops

Yield

Four encoded types drop here. The two Encryption files are the currency — fill them to the cap, then convert at Ray Gateway (Diaguandri, ~2 jumps).

What to Trade

Trade

Down a grade inside a category is cheap. Same grade, different category costs more. You already have Encryption, so most hops are sideways then down into the line you actually need.
